Materials & Craftsmanship

Handmade in Italy from earthenware clay, a playful school of sardines swims across half of this white earthenware serving platter, creating a striking pattern. The small fish designs are applied to the large platter using a hand-sponging technique with reactive glazes; varying application pressure creates shades of blue. Each large platter is decorated by hand, creating one-of-a-kind pieces sure to capture the imagination. 

The platter is made by hand using techniques handed down through generations at a small family-owned factory in Italy, using high-quality earthenware clay, which is known for its strength and durability. The sardine’s round serving platter is part of a large collection of marine life-inspired ceramics and textiles in the creatures collection.
